David A. Hardy, FBIS, FIAAA  is a former President of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA) and the longest-established space artist, having produced his first book, with Patrick Moore, in 1954 at the age of 18. This fact is celebrated in their latest collaboration, FUTURES: 50 YEARS IN SPACE (AAPPL/HarperCollins, 2004).

Hardy has written and illustrated seven of his own books, including ROCKETS & SATELLITES and ATLAS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM, and a book about his life and work was published in 2001: HARDYWARE: THE ART OF DAVID A. HARDY. He has also worked on TV, production art for films, video and computer games, has produced dozen of SF covers and even advertising posters.

In 2003 an asteroid was named after him: (13329) Davidhardy = 1998 SB32. Discovered 1998 Sept. 20 by Spacewatch at Kitt Peak. He is a recipient of the Lucien Rudaux Memorial Award, and the Sir Arthur Clarke Award (with Sir Patrick Moore, for FUTURES, 2005).  His website is at http://www.astroart.org.
