Roswitha Slater born under the constellation Capricorn on Christmas Day Dec.25,1954 in Munich Germany. At the age of 6 moved to Philadelphia, Pa.,U.S.A..Resulting from a German , American parentage traveling back and forth between Europe and U.S.A. is relative. I attended Overbrook High School, the academic scholars program in Philly,Pa.U.S.A and graduated in 1973.In 1984 I returned to Munich Germany and I have been working at the ESO for 18 years and enjoyed the environment of this observatory since the beginning of my employment here. The European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO).
My Art background is thru the Board of Education of Philadelphia, PA.,U.S.A. I also have attended several Art courses at the Munich Volksschule and worked with Professional Artist in the Munich area. I started drawing at an early age with many pauses and resumed with my Art at the new millennium the year 2000. My first Art exhibition that I took part was here at ESO and I displayed a watercolor named Venice which is now in Spain. Since then I am Continuing to show my work.. The first Space painting that I have done was Venus Transit 2004. This 20 year event was So impressive because it showed me the speed of Venus’s orbit and the enormous size of Our sun. Venus I always liked because of its name. Saturn because of its ring, this planet is so different. Mars has become interesting to me recently because its is becoming more familiar to mankind within the recent years like the moon in the 1960’s.
Working here at ESO is inspirational for me in Science and Art.
What interests me are the nebulae and think that I will do some paintings in that field of science next.I have been experimenting with aquarelle, but Enkaustik (WAX) is also as beautiful as our universe because it forms itself with a bit of help.
I will try to update my gallery regularly.for your viewing if time allows.
