An Iridescent Ring Nebula

The colors of the spectrum shimmer brilliantly in concentric rings that expand outward from the central white dwarf star that illuminates them. This planetary nebula is located about 2,300 light years from earth, and is also known as M57 or NGC6720. The image was created using three narrow band filters (F469N, F502N, and F658N) taken by the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 in April of 2008 and obtained from the Hubble ESO/ST-ECF Archive.
