FITS Liberator image: Eerie Shadows of a Peculiar Galaxy

Seen here is NGC 7049, the brightest of a three-galaxy system, whose dark dust lanes block the light of it's inner stars and give it a structure that has elements of both a elliptical galaxy and a spiral galaxy. It lies 100 million light years away and spans about 100,000 light years in diameter. This image was taken with the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) using two wide-band filters (F435W and F814W) in March of 2003 and obtained from the Hubble ESO/ST-ECF Archives.
