Our Place in Space to open in Bogotá

For more than 28 years, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has been expanding our cosmic horizons. Not only has Hubble revealed and shared the beauty, wonder, and complexity of the Universe, but it has also brought astronomy into the public eye, greatly impacting our culture, society, and art.
In February 2017, the travelling exhibition Our Place in Space premiered in the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti, on the banks of the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy.
Now the exhibition is coming to Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. Organised by Colegio Hacienda Los Alcaparros with the endorsement of the European Space Agency (ESA), the exhibition will be open from 14 November to 20 December 2018 in the gallery of the Atlantis Plaza — entrance to the exhibition is free.
By seamlessly integrating perspectives from both artists and astronomers, Our Place in Space inspires visitors to think about how humanity fits into the grand scheme of the Universe. By connecting with the local art community, it showcases the impact that Hubble has had on culture and society.
The exhibition features Ulrike Kuchner, Austrian astrophysicist and visual artist, along with acclaimed Colombian artists Valentino Cortázar, Lina Sinisterra, Danilo Rojas, Alejandro Ortiz, Matías Gutiérrez and Daniela Brill Estrada, and a select group of outstanding arts students from Los Alcaparros who will present their interpretations of the extraordinary images we have received from Hubble telescope over the last decades.
The exhibition at the Istituto Veneto was a stellar success, attracting nearly 30 000 visitors. It was then shown in the medieval town of Chiavenna, Italy, from 13 May to 20 August 2017, where it attracted more than 29 000 visitors. From May to September 2018 a version of the exhibition was on display at the ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre in Garching, Germany, and from 19 June to 4 November 2018, the exhibition was hosted by the Natural History Museum Vienna, Austria.
