NGC 4261 WFPC with illustration of jet.

This is a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of the core of galaxy NGC 4261. The super massive black hole in the center of the galaxy is surrounded by an 800 light year wide spiral shaped dust disk. This material in combination with the black hole is the source for two jets beeing ejected from the galaxy. The position and the direction of these jets are illustrated in the image.
