What is the Card Verification Value?

The Card Verification Value is a 3- or 4-digit number printed on all VISA, American Express, MasterCards and Diners cards . The number is normally printed on the reverse side of your credit card (on the front of American Express). The control number can be placed at different places depending on the type of card. The illustration below show where it can be placed.
