: With about $1.7 million due him this season,
Steven Jackson ranks as a major bargain among NFL running backs.
But if the Rams want to keep him beyond 2008, it's going to cost
the team. Jackson is entering the final season of the original
five-year, $7 million deal he signed in July 2004 after the Rams
made him their first-round draft choice (No. 24 overall) that
year. His next deal, whether it's here or elsewhere, will be far
more lucrative. "I think I've been a good person on and off the
field," Jackson said Saturday at minicamp, "so I expect to be
rewarded." Jackson said his agent, Gary Uberstine, and the Rams'
front office have yet to begin extension talks.

Sun Herald on Steven Jackson: Injuries continued to pile up as
Pro Bowl RB Jackson injured his groin in Week 3 and missed the
next four games. He returned two weeks ago to play Cleveland and
left that game in the first quarter with back spasms after eight
carries for 41 yards and a TD. Jackson figures to return against
the Saints on Sunday after having the bye week to recover. Saints
HC Payton said Jackson is one of the most impressive running backs
in the NFL. 'You go over to the Pro Bowl and you have a chance to
coach - it was the first time that I had been to that game - and
you get one week with players so there's an impression that you
have differently after you come away from that week,' Payton said.
'He's certainly one of the guys that stood out and we said, 'This
guy's something else."

St Louis Dispatch: Rams RB Steven Jackson was back with the
starting offense, and in an interesting twist, Brett Romberg was
at right guard, as the Rams opened practice Wednesday. Jackson
missed the final three quarters of the Rams' most recent game,
Oct. 28 against Cleveland, with a back injury that was later
diagnosed as a bulging disc. But Jackson responded well to
treatement during the bye week, and it looks like he will start
Sunday in New Orleans. With right guard Richie Incognito
undergoing knee surgery Tuesday, it looks like Romberg _ who
missed the Cleveland game with an ankle injury _ will start in
Incognito's place.

Belleville News Democrat on Steven Jackson: Rams RB Jackson did
some conditioning work, but he did not practice on Monday. Jackson
has a bulging disc in his back. "Steven looks good," Linehan said.
"He feels a lot better. Having some time off and being able to
calm that down a little bit was real good for him. He did some
conditioning today, and we'll start him back in with some light
work on Wednesday." Asked if he expected Jackson to play this
Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, Linehan said, "Yeah, we do.
We're hoping anyway." Jackson's status against the Saints will
become clearer on Wednesday. If he's able to practice, he has a
good chance of playing.

back Steven Jackson, sidelined by back spasms in the first
half after a strong start, has a bulging disk. But he said
the injury is treatable and was optimistic Jackson could be
back in the lineup without missing a game after the Rams'
